Target Audience

To get research into our target audience we asked both females and males between the age of 16-30 a questionnaire to do with films. We asked the following questions:

1. Gender

2. Age

3. Favourite genre of film

4. How often do you go to the cinema?

5. What makes you want to see a film?

6. Which way do you watch movies the most?

We asked these questions because we beleiev they are all relevant to a film and going to the cinema to watch films. The first four questions are to get a standard picture fo the audience and who they are. Question 5 is important because it devls into why people go to watch a film, is it the quality of the trailer, storyline or if someone they like is in it? So this was a good question to ask because we got to know the main reasons. The last question is just to see whether films do the best by being watched a the cinema, on DVD or on their TV or computers at home.

These are the results:

They would mainly be females, and they like comedy or thriller films. They go to the cimena every month to see the films with the best trailers and storylines, otherwise they would watch films on their TV.

Magazine Cover

From looking at these magazine covers, it has given inspiration for our own magazine cover. The first one with Harry potter is very brightly coloured and makes it stand out against the others, this is what we can take towards our one. The picture with the dark background is another thing we can do for our own, because it makes it simple and focused on the picture of the character and not what is going on around him. The second cover is good because the colours flow well together, this is something we can hopefully do for ours, to make it does not look to separated. The last cover is effective because it shows the sinister image of the character, which we will do for our actress, just to make it go well with the genre of the movie.

Thriller Posters

After researching into thriller film posters, we have looked at them to see what we can take from them and put into our own.

We want the colours to be dark and moody, to make it look more sinister. The effectiveness of the tag line is important because it shows more mystery and for it to be more effective, it needs to be something that is going to stick in someones mind when they read it. The image itself needs to be of great quality, because this is an important part of the poster, making it look realistic and clear, so that it is more credible as a poster. We want it to look simple so that it keeps mystery, however, it needs to have something in it that can extend onto the trailer, so that it all goes well with each other, and not to just have the main characters face on the front.

Magazine Front Cover Analysis

This is the Empire magazine cover for the 6th Harry Potter film.

The title is bright red, attracting the onlooker onto the magazine. The text type is quite distinctive, making it stand out against other magazine.

The image shows the main character from the film, Harry Potter, it is effective because it shows that the film is about him, and makes the magazine more attractive because people will recognise the character. The quality of the image is very good, in the way that the light is hitting his face, and that there is blood on his face, this insinuates something bad goes on in the film, making it look more exciting. The background is simple, focusing it all on him, there is some smoke coming across in the background, could mean that there is something spooky happening.

On the other parts of the cover there is other films being advertised, the names of these films are to the left of the cover and are in smaller writing so the main focus is on Harry Potter. Above these names is a feature of the magazine, this is the 'massive preview special' in bigger font than the rest, showing the reader that it is a special edition of the magazine, this could make them want to read it more.

This is the cover of Total Film magazine for the Star Trek film. It is very simple, with just a black and white image of the main character from Star Trek. The whole cover is in black, white and red, very simple but also very effective. The text is quite similar to Empire magazine title, because the 'M' looks the same. However, the lettering is in white, this makes it stand out but not as much as the red of the other words on the cover.

The image itself is of the actor from Star Trek, it is a very strong close up head shot. His facial expression seems almost mischievous, as if he is up to something, with a slight smirk on his face.

The rest of the cover features other movies at the top band, they are in red and this makes the attraction draw away from Star Trek but onto these other films. There seems to be a prize or competition this may lure the reader into reading the magazine and being more interested in it. The other text on the page is smaller and in white font, this makes it quite hard to read.

The whole cover flows very well together because all the colours go with each other.

This cover is of Entertainment Weekly for the film Sweeney Todd.

The title is in a bold blue font, along with part of the title of another part of the cover.

The image is of Johnny Depp who is the main character of the film, this makes the whole cover about him, as there are no other movies mentioned on the cover. His facial expression is very angry and serious, showing that the film is not going to a fun comedy, but something very much more dark and sinister.

His name is in a bold white font. Some words are in red italic font, this makes it different to the other text, breaking the cover up a bit.

The whole cover is very plain and simple, with not much text on it at all, making it more minimalistic compared to other magazines.

Production Title Planning- Survey Results

We narrowed down the ten names to five. These five were the ones we liked the most, we thought to get a clear idea of what would be best we would ask fifteen people within our target audience age group, which is 16-30, what they thought would be the best one.

From the survey we carried out , there was a clear winner. The majority chose Parallel Productions as thier favourite name.

The next step is going to be creating our logo design for our company.

Production Title Planning- Name Ideas

For our Trailer we have to feature our own Production Titles. After researching into different names, we came up with these ten ideas.

Venus Productions- We thought this name would be suitable because many of the existing titles all related to the sky or the universe. However we concluded that people often associate the platen Venus with women which is not our concept for our film.

Infinity Productions- this name Went with the concept of being limitless which makes our company seem as if we have no limits on what we can do. The name itself is quite catchy and has a futuristic feel to it.

Mystery Productions- We then thought of a name which would immediatly be assiocated with thriller movies. 'Mystery' is often something that people would often assiocate Thriller movies with therefore we thought it would work well. However, we thought its to cliche and not professional enough for our movie.

Swift Productions- When researching into production companies we found that Warnwer Bros is named after a surname of the founders of the company. So we therfore liked the idea of our company being named after someone, we thopugh of the singer Taylor Swift and thought the name Swift had a ring to it.

Parallel Productions- When thinking about limitless we came up with this idea because Parallel lines never meet and therfore is endless. Parallel could be a metaphor for the link between the audience watching and the film.

Watch Productions- This idea came from the thought of the audience simply watching the film. However, this is again not professional enough and is amateur.

Perplexity Productions- We looked up in a Theasurus the word Thriller to get some more ideas for a name. We choose this word in particular because it sounds sophisticated and also is alliteration which makes the audience remember it more. Although its related to the thriller genre, its not sharp enough to stay in the audiences mind.

Riddler Productions- This is another word we found in the Theasurus next to Thriller. The reason we used it was because a Thriller movie wh=ill sometimes have riddles in it which will challenge the audience.

Sphinx Produtions- When we researched into production companies, the company Tristar has a mythical horse as its logo. This then made us think of another mythical creature which is called a Sphinx. A Sphinx is a creature which bares a riddle which is to be sovlved for it to go away. We thought that this went well with the Thriller genre. However, it may not go well with the theme of our film because mythical creatures are often in fantasy films.

Starlight productions- We thought of this anme, when thinking of the universe again. The name has quite a flow to it, and goes well against other companies such as Universal.
